Yes! None of our kitchenware will contain stained or dyed woods. We use locally sourced domestic woods and high quality imported exotic woods to achieve the color patterns you see in our products. Mainly from Africa, South, and Central Americas, colorful and figured woods such as Padouk, Bocote, and Katalox offer eye catching patterns perfect for any piece that will be used or seen by many.
Please see the attached PDF for the names and brief descriptions of the woods we use in our products.
No. All of our products are made using water-resistant glue, not water-proof glue. After every use, wash your cutting board with hot water and a sponge, with soap or a liquid dish detergent, but not with a product intended for the dishwasher. Place the cutting board on edge in a dish drainer or hand dry with a dish towel. Never leave a wooden cutting board soaking unattended in a sink or dish pan. Never put a wooden cutting board in a dishwasher. If you do, the surface of the board will become rough and the glue joints WILL eventually fail.
If you use a board often and it begins to look dry or dull, apply a generous coat of a food-safe mineral oil finish (We use Walrus Oil that can be purchased Here). Wait about an hour, then wipe off any remaining oil. Don’t use vegetable oil or olive oil; they get sticky and will go rancid after a while.
If, after a few years of use, you notice stains or excessive cut marks, you can easily restore the original finish. You’ll need three grits of garnet sand paper (100, 180, and 240 grit) and a sanding block. Sand the cutting board evenly and thoroughly, using the rough sand paper first, then medium, then fine. When the surface is restored and smooth, apply a generous coat of a food-safe mineral oil finish as described above.
After every use wash with warm soapy water and let air dry. Never place your board in the dishwasher as the detergents used with dry out and damage your board. Use a nonabrasive cleaning agent such as dish soap and hand wash. Do not leave your board to soak in water for long periods of time as it will eventually cause the wood to swell and joints to crack. If the wood in your board begins to look dry you can refinish it by applying a coat of food safe mineral oil.
Walrus oil is the product we use to finish all of our boards that will be used in a food oriented application. It is a mineral oil that is 100% food safe and FDA approved.

You can now add a custom engraving to any board you order from our website. Every engraving is made right here at Petyk Customs to ensure a consistent and quality product every time. Please visit our "Engravings" page and select the engraving you would like to add to your board to learn more about the specific engraving and our process.
There are a number of variables that go into choosing the engraving location.
-The first thing to watch out for is any abrupt changes in wood type. For example Cherry burns well and clean where as the oils in a wood such as Purple Heart cause it to burn comparatively poor. If an engraving crosses an abrupt line between these woods it could create a visible seperation in the engraving and leave a relatively unclean finish. In most cases, this change in wood isnt an issue and can be worked around, however, it is worth noting that every wood burns slightly different and some variation throughout the image may occur. The more changes in the wood, the more chance for variation in the image.
-The second thing to look out for are any significant changes in color. All types/colors of wood can be engraved. We can create a clean engraving on dark woods or light woods without issue, however, if there is an abrupt change between dark and light within the engraving this will cause you to essentially lose half of the image into the wood. We reccomend that you select areas of the board that are relatively light in nature to allow for enough contrast between the engraving and the wood.
-Third thing to consider is if there is any heavy grain patterns in the piece. Naturally some parts of the grain structure is more dense than other areas which could cause the engraving to appear slightly different in some areas of the burn. This, however, is easily compensated for and is not as much of an issue as the previous items but it is worth noting.
